Lady Ettard sent men to hopefully kill Pellas, but he fought them off, hoping to receive her love. Sir Gawain felt terrible for Pellas, especially since Pellas began to grow tired. Ettard thought Sir Pellas died, so she welcomed Gawain and also said she would be his lover. Gawain ended up breaking his promise to Sir Pellas, and slept with Lady Ettard for two days and two nights. He said he loved her and thought there was no other human so fair as she was. Sir pellas, worried about Gawain, rushed over to find Sir Gawain had betrayed him. He laid his sword on their throats and left, heart broken. Gawain’s chivalric and religious values were tested when he arrived at Bertilak’s castle. In order to stay true to his virtues, Gawain had to remain chivalrous, which meant he couldn’t openly decline Bertilak’s wife, Morgan le Fey, who tried to seduce him. However, he needed her to know that he would neither do the host wrong nor go against his religious values and sleep with her. When Gawain finds out that Bertilak’s wife betrayed him, Lee McClain believes through his shock and embarrassment, Gawain looked for a scapegoat, “The one he finds- women taps straight into the medieval antifeminist tradition; like Adam, Solomon, Samson, and David, he too has been betrayed by a woman, Morgan le Fey” (McClain). Gawain was angry because he had been tricked by a woman, and in his moment of anger, he lost his knightly virtues and started to blame women, saying that all women are liars, and that women have ruined relationships because of their mistakes.…

Sir Gawain’s impending fate that waits for him at the Green Chapel hinges on his behavior with the lady in the castle. Although there were three hunts accompanied with the three temptations, the temptations have dire consequences if Gawain succumbs to them. The lady is clearly offering herself to Sir Gawain, perhaps to test his chastity. Although Gawain’s chastity is not a main focal point of the five virtues, it is implied since he is, Mary’s Knight.…

Moreover, Sir Gawain is even willing to ignore Sir Lancelot’s betrayal as he has saved them from danger many times. Sir Gawain believes that Sir Lancelot as a knight is unbeatable and his presence is required in order to keep the male bonds flourishing amongst the knights and the king (Malory 483). This point is further emphasized when King Arthur blames Sir Mordred for disrupting the male ties amongst his brave knights. He states that Sir Lancelot’s partnership was more precious to him than the queen’s support. King Arthur goes on to say that Queen Guinevere was replaceable, but it would be impossible to find a knight like Sir Lancelot, who protected him from all…

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a chivalric romance consisting of extreme exchanges. Most obvious of the exchanges, and perhaps the most import to the plot line is the exchange between Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The two partake in a game of administering blows to the neck, one year apart. Beyond this exchange, there is also a game of exchange between Bertilak, and Sir Gawain.…
