The Theme Of Betrayal In Julius Caesar

In Rome Sweet Rome, several different themes could be associated with this play. Although, one theme stood out to me the most: betrayal. This theme is current throughout the play, especially when Senator Brutus, Senator Cassius, and some of the other members meet up to plan Caesar’s death at Cicero’s restaurant. Another way betrayal becomes clear is after Caesar is stabbed, and everyone who was involved all turn against each other to blame his death on someone other than themselves if they got caught. In addition, betrayal is present when Lucy the Intern quits working for Senator Brutus, and starts working for Octavius Caesar. Along with that, betrayal is clear when Tony convinces Brutus to address the public with Caesar’s death, but then twist his words to make the people of Rome want Cassius and Brutus dead. Towards the beginning of the play Caesar addresses the common people of Rome by telling them he is their best candidate. A few given circumstances include Caesar is a powerful leader, and he already has the majority of people on his side for the election. He also has a wife that he captured from another village. Next, in the middle of the play Cassius talks privately to Brutus, trying to see how he feels about Caesar. Given circumstances include Brutus’s uneasy feeling about Caesar’s rise to power. In addition, Brutus feels nervous to say things about Caesar because of his fear of him and his power. Then, by the end of the play, the scene where Brutus and Cassius go on the show to rap against Octavius and Tony, a given circumstance in this scene includes whoever loses must dies. Another example would be Octavius isn’t good a rapping, therefore Tony will do most of the work.
