Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

My grades this past year were and are not indicative of who I am as a student, or as a person in general. My junior year of high school, I decided to do PSEO, thinking it was an easy way to get credits for both high school and college. I did not realize the struggle I was going to have just trying to be accountable for myself during my senior year. My daily schedule consisted of work, soccer, managing the high school boy’s hockey team, volunteer work, spending time with my high school friends and taking college courses. I took the most challenging classes through Anoka-Ramsey Community College, thinking that like high school these would be the best for me.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

Reflecting WRTG 101 Writing has always been a personal experience for me. I have pages and pages of journal entries from various times throughout my life. Writing used to be an outlet for me to get the thoughts out of my head that I didn’t quite understand, or even a way to freeze a moment in time. My writing has always had such a personal voice on it that I would get negative remarks through high school. The teacher would tell me, “amazing writing, but you write as if you are speaking”.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

The goal of the Organizational Leadership program prepares me to become not just a learner, but to become a leader one day (Bethel University, 2014). The video, Introduction to Adult Learning, provides many tips that will equip any student, though directed for the adult students, with methods to obtain good writing skills. One tip most useful would be to “give your writing time to stew” (Bethel University, 2014). I made my children listen to the Unit 2 Attend with me so they could understand what I’m going through returning to college. I also wanted them to understand that writing skills are very important to learn.…

I took my Smart Measure, 2-1 Success Plan Activity assessment on January 4 and was shocked by my results. I scored 100s and high 90s in almost everything (Individual Attributes, Learning Styles, Technical Competency, Technical Knowledge, Math and Typing Speed) were among the higher percentage predominately in the Blue coded (100%). What shocked me was my Reading, Writing and Recall scores which fell way below my personal expectations at 79% (88% in Apprehension, 80% in Grammar, Usage and Syntax and 60% in Structure). As a student planning to minor in Creative Writing I cringed when I saw these terrible results in what I believed were my strengths not weaknesses! I immediately began to search the SNHU Resources in MySNHU for tutoring and online writing resources that would help me strengthen these skills and make me a better writer in my professional and academic career.…
