Beth Fantaskey was born May 5th, 1974. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, got her PhD at Penn State, and got her English degree from Shippensburg, PA. In her book “Buzzkill” it is partially based off of her high school experiences and her favorite books by Nancy Drew. Millie Ostermeyer, the Protagonist, and the author both went to the same high school, like to read, but, they are different because Millie Ostermeyer was not shy in school, while the author was.
According to Kate Pavao, she took a Q&A with Beth Fantaskey on where she attended school, what inspired her to write her novel, and a small amount about her childhood life. She got her English degree from Shippensburg, PA and did political speeches, newsletters, and small articles

“ I think it comes from growing up reading Nancy Drew Novels. I loved them, but I was a geeky little kid. I always knew I was never going to have this perfect Nancy Drew life. So I put my idea of a perfect life in my books. The protagonist of the story loves to read Nancy Drew Novels, like me.” Then fans wanted to know how the book came about. “Normally, I am a paranormal writer-or I was-but then when I tried to write my fourth book with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as a paranormal book, it just kind of fell flat for both my editor, Margaret Raymo, and me.”Is what she said to them.
A third writer, by Elizabeth Bloom states that in her interview with Beth Fantaskey. She was inspired to make her book a murder mystery because when she was young, martial arts and fighting was a big thing in Pennsylvania where she grew up. It was known as “cockfighting” and they were put into octagon cages. Even though it was illegal at the time.
