Addressing Bullying in School When people picture high school, they normally do not think of bullying. Bullying is a huge thing in high school, and action needs taken upon it. Bullying affects many children, and it needs to be addressed to help prevent it from happening. A study shows that 20% of high school students have been bullied on school property, and 15% through social media, over a time period of twelve months. Several schools are having a hard time to determine what anti-bullying approach to take. There are so many programs available, yet many schools do not know what is best for them. In this case, most schools will want to take the less costly approach and the students will not be getting what they need. Schools need clear guidance on a truly effective program.
In the article “Best Practices to Address Bullying”, it states that most anti-bullying programs only have a moderate reduction of bullying. As a whole, there are several parts that are successful. Successful implementation works with the best practices and evidence based approaches. These approaches must be comprehensive, coordinated, and happening school wide. Any part of each school from classrooms to hallways, even to locker rooms should have someone around to watch students. All of these things should be taken care of and happening at all times to stay really committed to the anti-bullying. Students should also know how to handle a situation if they’re being bullied, as well as teachers knowing how to react to children
