Best Intervention Model

When trying to develop the best intervention program, you need to identify the best fit theory that you would like to work with. There is criteria that need to be answered when trying to determine what theory should be used. The priority population should be considered. The intervention program that I will be discussing is to lower teen pregnancies in teenagers. The theory I used for the intervention program was the Health Belief Model. This is one of the most commonly used models and this “is a value –expectancy theory” (Mckenzie, J.F., Neiger, B.L, & Thackeray, R., 2013). This particular model targeted the priority population that I am looking to educate in the program. The reason why I think the health belief model is a good fit for my program is because one it is a well- known model that has a good repetition from health educators. Secondly I felt like after reviewing the model information it met criteria to educate on how to lower teen pregnancies. When following the steps needed to take throughout the model you first want to determine what the perceived vulnerability is for the individuals. In this particular case it would be how teenagers perceive getting pregnant and what they feel are the chances that they might become pregnant if they participate in sexual behaviors. It is a model I feel best fits for developing an intervention program to lower teen pregnancies in teenagers. This model gives detailed steps to follow in order to get the most benefit out of the program. I felt like getting opinions from the priority population made the intervention program even more personal and that these age group individuals can relate too. The program will meet the needs of the priority population and give them all the resources and education that they need if the health belief model is followed through in creating an intervention
