The first piece I enjoyed was Fly Me to the Moon. It was performed by Zachary Klein on drums who was accompanied by Alexander Ambrose. It was written by Bart Howard in 1954 but was made famous by Frank Sinatra a decade later. Frank Sinatra was an incredibly talented singer and actor from the 1960s. The recording that Frank Sinatra made was closely associated with the Apollo missions to the moon. Buzz Aldrin brought a copy of it with him to the moon. It was the first song to be played in orbit around the moon and on the moon when Buzz Aldrin played it on a cassette player. He used a different kind of drum stick for this piece called a brush. A brush drum stick there are many metal bristles on the end of it. Brush drum sticks are good to use to make a softer sound and are mainly used for Jazz. I have played with this type of drum stick while playing on my cousin’s drum set. These sticks were perfect for the piece as the pianist was playing the melody without making a single mistake. Zachary was in the background playing the slick beat flawlessly. Zachary brushed the stick on the snare drum to create more of a scratchy sound. One thing I noticed however was that they did not seem perfectly in rhythm. I believe that Alexander was rushing.
