It is still dark. With her small torchlight she looks at the calendar hanging on the opposite wall. Another young girl is still deep asleep on the bed below the wall. She waits for her best friend to get up. Today she will be ten years old and the first person to wish her ‘happy birthday’ will be her best friend. Birthday is a special day for children. And today stepping from single digit to double digit has made it a more special birthday. It is afternoon now. The sun is at its highest point on the sky. Everyone and everything …show more content…
I’m sorry. I had enough money only for the cake. I promise to get you a beautiful gift next month. : Promise? : Promise. Best friend replies with hand in her throat. : No, I was just kidding. You got me cake and remembered my birthday, that is more than enough for me. Thank you. : Anything for you. Good night. : Good night. Sweet dreams. In this way the day of today converted into night. The day started with tears and ends with a smile. It is around nine now. The rule of hostel is bed at nine, and all the light must be switched off. The little girl is not sleepy tonight. She lights her small torch light and picks both the Fairy books. She looks at them with both joy and regret. She keeps the gift copy near her pillow and other copy on the table along with the gift wrapping plastic. She picks it up and looks at it closely. She reads the message ‘Happy Birthday to My Dear Daughter.’ With a warm smile she puts the wrapper back and lies down on bed happily. She is about to fall asleep when she remembers something. She gets up and lights the torchlight again and picks up the gift wrapper again and looks at it carefully. The whole story becomes clear now. She must be a fool to not realize it so far. 11:00 am I wake up to a perfectly clean room with a perfect breakfast: sausage, pancakes, bacon, and cinnamon rolls all sitting right next to my bed. I eat my breakfast and get ready for the day. I go downstairs to see my friends Austen, Zach, and Elias down there holding four tickets to the Super Bowl game tonight and a jet sitting outside in the field. EN 281 Setting and characterization It was about 6 a.m. Saturday morning and it is an extremely beautiful morning; one of the mornings that makes you stop and realize just how amazing it is at that particular moment in the world. Everything from how nice the summer breeze felt on a freshly shaved face, how the cool water felt as it ran between the toes and bottom of your foot, the smell of fresh cut grass in air, the sounds, or lack of sound, that summer brings in when it is perfect outside. It is very quiet, the only sounds you can hear are the occasional birds chirping as they flew by, an occasional car driving by on the road behind you, a fish that surfaces time from time, the gentle sound of the water as the current brings it in and out,…

I then ate a bowl of cocoa puffs and went back upstairs to prepare myself for the day.…

All things considered, today was, to abridge, tiring. What's more, miserable. I stay here, writing in this diary at the foot of Jem's bed, viewing over him as he dozes, his rest gradually helping his arm to recuperate, now that Dr. Reynolds has gauzed it. Thinking back judiciously and sensibly, I feel no lament for my activities - in helping Tom Robinson, or in the way I've brought up my youngsters - I just feel an unfolding compassion and disillusionment for the man who had, looking in context, began this entire emergency.…
