The integrative negotiation category is a prime example of this collaborative effort. I will view team members as partners in a value-creating and trust-building process, which will produce highly cooperative relationships. By actively listening, asking open-ended questions, and sharing information and power amongst my team, all parties will more effectively contribute towards a solution to any particular problem. Collecting inputs and establishing each parties’ Best Alternative to Negotiated Agreements (BATNA) will allow me to assess what each member would be willing to accept if the ultimate agreement cannot be reached. As a leader, I am aware that not everyone will always be 100% pleased with every solution that is proposed. Knowing what each person’s BATNA is, however, will enable me to reach the best possible solution for all individuals involved. By incorporating the integrative negotiation category into my work center, my supervisors, peers, and subordinates will perceive me as a leader that can guide our team in accomplishing a goal without sacrificing relationships along the way. Enhancing my emotional flexibility and focusing on individualized consideration will directly impact the relationship aspect of the team leader role, while integrative negotiations and prevention affect both the task and relationship. By accurately applying the management-by-exception passive style and management-by-exception active style of the Full Range Leadership Development model, I can adapt my leadership behaviors to reflect the current situation within any given work center.
