Berry Patch Farm Research Paper

Sunlight. The sole item that is vital for life all around the world. Here at Berry Patch Farms sunlight is the one thing that is constantly being fought over. Every strawberry here is trying to take in more than the next, hoping that they will be chosen first at the next strawberry picking and going on to greater and grander things. I've seen strawberries thrive under the sun creating large and curvy strawberries, those are the ones usually picked first. I’ve also seen strawberries that have been deprived of sunlight, shriveling up, drying out, becoming half the size of the other strawberries. As the sun rises each morning there is a small rustling sound, that only the sharpest of ears can decipher, as the strawberries adjust their position to feel the sun's plentiful rays. There are at least one hundred bushes at Berry Patch Farms, if not more. Every strawberry from the same bush is related, so everyone has plenty of cousins. My parents are the ones that are connected to the same stem as me, they tell me everything that I need to know before they get picked and go on to serve somewhere else.
At my youngest stage they explained to me, “No one knows what happens when you leave the farm, if you get to leave. Using the sun will give you the best chance of growing, having a family, and getting out of this place.

The basket began to swing again, causing my unstable self to fall out of the green basket, watching my future walk away from me. Laying in the grass I loud out a loud scream, releasing some of the anger that I had bottled inside me. It felt like the whole world was against me being with Mary. As I looked up at the vast baby blue sky, I noticed that I got dropped off at the top of the hill. All I had to do was get to the bottom of the other side of the hill. Standing up with shaky legs, I began my journey down. It was hard to see far due to the thousands of blades of grass, standing tall and

With such a deep and sincere love of the historical value of the Bulow Plantation, the state park rangers want to share the vast history that once occurred on the 2,200 acres of cleared land owned by the Bulow family. There are several ways the state park rangers promote the land so that as many people can enjoy it as possible. One of the ways they advertise is by attracting active outdoor people to go on the many hiking trails and bicycling trails or for the water lovers to drop a small powerboat at the drop off or canoe and/or kayak through the various channels of water. The article that I chose this week was You Paid How Much For That Apple? In this article, Elizabeth Dunn discusses the reasoning behind the cost of Honeycrisp Apples compared to that of other apples. 20 years ago, David Bedford cross bred different apples and established what is known today as the Honeycrisp Apple. The Honeycrisp Apples were so good that they are known in today’s society as a “price phenomenon” compared to other apples on the market because of their great taste (Dunn, 2013). The high price of Honeycrisp Apples is contributed to a few different aspects in today’s market.…

In the article titled “Millennials Bring Back the Humble Houseplant” from The StarTribune, the author, Laurie Junker discusses the growing demand for houseplants in those who would be considered “millennials”. She attributes this to the growth of social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest, which allows people to gain inspiration from other’s ideas. The author goes on to discuss how people often come into garden stores clueless about caring for plants, so this increase in demand has allowed for knowledge to spread about proper plant upkeep. Finally, she explains that people often crave the experience of caring for something. Plants are very useful in satisfying this urge because their death has fewer consequences.…

For three years, Father had refused the idea of leaving North Carolina. But my brother, Ben, sent us another letter, addressed as he always did to John Benjamin Wilks and Katie. In the letter Ben was praising his new farm, the richness of the land and how many more acres he was clearing. He told of the bountiful crops of corn and wheat that he would be reaping in a few weeks, more corn and wheat per acre than Father had ever gotten from our old worn out farm in North Carolina. He told of the abundance of water, game, and timber.…

Variant Identities of 20th Century Latinos Oxnard, about fifty miles north of Los Angeles, is one of many in California’s expansive agricultural regions. A small town, ideally situated on a coastal plane, providing the perfect balance of soil, and moisture from the Pacific Ocean. Great conditions for the strawberry. The desirable low growing fruit is not the easiest to harvest though, requiring arduous labor under the intense Southern California sun. On any given late-spring afternoon, you’ll will find a handful of hooded workers, stooped and picking basketfuls of the sweet berry.…

Film Review: The Poniente What does it take to grow a tomato plant? For most people, perhaps a handful of seeds, a bag of fertilizer, and the occasionally trimming and watering would be sufficient enough to harvest the fruits in a few months’ time. Yet, as the film The Poniente has showed, the real cost behind these seemly average household items, are often beyond our imaginations. The Poniente tells the story of a single mother, Lucia, who tried to lead the family business in a rural costal town.…

The car makes a sharp turn into the mass of greenery, greeting an image torn right off the pages of a fiction novel. Fairytale houses are woven within the trees, dappled sunlight tinting their roofs, and a dirt trail winds down to a dreamy fishing pond and a farm populated with llamas, donkeys, rabbits, and sheep. The air tastes crisp. The warm sun draws families out: parents chat with neighbors over ice tea as their children bounce along the community trampoline, and an aged couple saunters along the sidewalk, pulled onward by their two corgis. In a modern world where adults and children alike suffer from a lack of exposure to nature, Serenbe is a successful experiment of what a healthy and social community should be.…

“Best Friend” I sit with my hand clutched at my heart and the other concealing my face while her car drove off with all of our memories with it. As she becomes smaller and smaller, I’m left detached with twilight approaching and the sound of crickets filling the air, I toyed with the idea of bringing her back, but decided against it. I clumsily kick a rock to the other side of the street, watching it fly into the bushes. As darkness overtakes me, recurring thoughts flood my mind and my eyes turn fuzzy, quickly wiping them away, all the flashes of the past overwhelm my mind repeatedly. Seeing the future unfolding right before my eyes caused numbness to tremble through down to my core.…

I’m happy. I really am truly happy. I know the catalyst that brought about this happiness, but since it changed so much of my life I don’t know what individual change truly is causing my blissful contentment. Either way I do not wish to tie up my happiness and poke and prod it to figure it out. I’d rather just revel in it and experience my peace since I know it can’t last for long.…
