"What a beautifully day," I say, looking out the window of my apartment on Main Street U.S.A. Many years ago, I created something that would change how people would entertain themselves. No, not Television or Theater, the modern day theme park. Of course, Knott's Berry Farm opened before my theme park, but my park is widely considered to be the first real theme park. It all started in the 1930s when I took my kids to amusement parks, such as Coney Island. "Daddy, I wanna go on that one!" My daughter Diane said, pointing to a carousel at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. I sat down in a bench watching her and my other daughter, Sharon, have their fun, and thought "What if there was a park that the whole family could enjoy?" That's where the
