What is Bernoulli’s Principle?
Who came up with the Bernoulli’s Principle? Bernoulli was the last name of three Swiss mathematicians relatives: Jakob, Johann, and Daniel. “Bernoulli's principle was named for Daniel Bernoulli (1700-1782), a Swiss mathematician”(Martin, “Bernoulli’s Principle”). This mathematician was born on January 29, 1700 in Groningen, the Netherlands. His death occurred on March 17, 1782. During his lifetime, he worked as a professor at the University of Basel in 1733. His principle is all about calculating the flow of fluids. “His Hydrodynamica, published in 1738, is considered his most important work”(Swetz, “ Mathematical Treasure: Daniel Bernoulli’s Hydrodynamica”). There are many ways Bernoulli’s Principle affects our everyday lives. For example, it applies to airplanes’s shape of wings. They are that shape because it gives them the power of lift. There is fast-moving air on the top and slow-moving air on the bottom. So that means that there is a higher pressure on the bottom and there is lift. “The upward pressure exerted by the air under the wing is thus greater than the pressure exerted downward above the wing, resulting in a net upward force, or lift” (Bernoulli’s Principle). You can also apply to a baseball. Also, the most interesting is the urge to fall into the railway when suddenly a train passes by with high speed.
