By default, when multiple approaches are used in a positive manner, employees perform at higher ethical levels, leading to a successful organization. Had Ebbers not used revenue as his driving force, and instead used his position to instill positive ethical behavior in his subordinates, he could have accomplished his goals at WorldCom, as there would not have been such extreme levels of criminal activity and fraud. Image maintenance and/or image restoration is necessary at the highest level of any industry. When WorldCom’s image was tarnished, Ebbers had five options to address image restoration: denial, evading of responsibility, reducing offensiveness, corrective action, and mortification (Weber, 2010). Rather than choosing corrective action, Ebbers chose denial and evading responsibility. Had he opted to correct his wrongs from the start, he may have been able to evade the consequences that ensued for him and his accomplices. Ebbers unethical practices led to the loss of money, time, and organization, and ultimately,
