Bermud A Short Story

Improved Essays
It had been years since I had seen my cousins in Bermuda, and my mom one late night was looking at plane tickets for fun. She came across some tickets to bermuda for a mere 200 dollars. Nine days later we were on a Delta flight to Charlotte, North Carolina, and then to the balmy island of Bermuda. This was my first time flying over seas, and my stomach filled with butterflies. The plane finally touched down after what seemed to be the longest flight with my built up excitement.

When we stepped down the tall stairs from the plane; the humid air hit us like a warm blanket. The smell of saltwater lingered in the air, and the turquoise waters with the sun sparkling on the surface caught my eye. Looking towards the sandy-pink beach small sailboats

I could not help to stare up at the tall sails. I stood there gaping as my family climbed up the ladder to a monstrous sailboat. I was quick to follow behind. My cousin set sail for the open water, and it was not long before his boat began to feel tiny compared to the enormous coast guard ship passing by us. There was not a cloud in sight as far as the horizon, and the hot sun beamed down, so the occasional mist of sea water was refreshing. My two cousins, sister and I sat at the front of the boat, and we would wander back and forth. We were catching up on the years that we missed with the great distance being the only obstacle that stood in our way. A few hours went by, and the dark clouds hung ominously in the sky to the west. The gloomy clouds did not phase me, and we kept to our childish games. In an instant the wind picked up causing larger waves to form. We were far from the Bermuda shore already, and my cousin kept sailing farther and farther away. The farther we got out the choppier the water was. The wind was picked up from the west and drove the boat faster and faster. We rocked back and forth, and we tried to enjoy our precious moments together, for this trip would not last as long as we hoped. The weather was getting worse by the minute, and I could see the concern in my parents’ eyes. This sudden change of weather certainly did not phase my cousin as he crashed through each wave like they were just ripples from a drop of water breaking the perfectly smooth glass like surface of a still lake. My stomach turned with every bounce of the boat, and after 10 minutes it was in a knot. I hoped I would not be seeing my lunch again. We were far out into the waters of the Bermuda Triangle, and there was not another boat in sight. I could not help to thing to myself that there was a reason they had not come out this far. A second big gust of wind whipped through, but this one caught

Nobody could see Versey’s face, but she wasn't impressed by sand. She always had commentary about everything, and she didn't say anything when she stepped off of the Zipper’s ramp onto the sand. After adjusting to the chill temperature of the water, I sat on some rocks and let the waves knock me around. On the other hand, the rest of my family had grown restless, wanting to brave the increasingly high waves. After treading water for a bit, my father decided it would be a great idea to swim to the buoy—really just a piece of wood—that was thirty feet away in the waves. My sister Sarah and I accepted the challenge…

I now had a chilly breeze blowing in my face which was strong enough to keep the pesky bugs away from me. I hadn’t made much progress on my way back when out of the blue the faint breeze turned into a strong gust that brought large waves with it. The strong wind and waves spun my paddleboard around and I flew off. I was paddling in shallower water than I thought and it was quite rocky. When I fell off of…

During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…
