What was the conflict? How did it start?

The conflict is between East Berlin, which was part of East Germany and West Berlin, which was actually located belonged to West Germany. On a bigger scale this was a conflict between Communism VS. Democracy.

Which parties got involved and why?

The western nations and the Soviet union only allied together in the second world war to defeat Germany. At the end of the war tensions resumed between the allies. However It was also decided at the end of the war, these countries would occupy Germany. The Western nations (France, Great Britain and the USA) would occupy the west, and the soviets would take over the East. The exact same thing happened inland with Berlin, which was now a divided city. The

How did putting up the Berlin Wall effect the cold war?
By putting up the wall, the tension between the two powers especially (USA and USSR) increased, and the risk of a major conflict between the USA and the USSR increased.

What impact did it have on either side of the barrier?

It had a very negative impact for those who were living in the East, having to put up with rigid rules and regulations, unable to visit their loved ones on the other side. Same goes for those living in the west, they too wished to have access to family and friends across the fence. Although conversely living in west Berlin was much easier, they had well paid for jobs, and much better standards of living. Why was the Berlin Wall put up?

The wall was put up to symbolize the extreme tension and the true separation of the Western and Eastern governments of Berlin. A way of showing just how far both governments will go for a nation to become of one kind, even if it means dividing parts of countries

Communism and Capitalism

Communism
The system of communism does have good intentions for the people, these things are being principled, and bringing equality. However the soviets and other countries that support communism, may not have executed this plan too well. The main reasons why communism didn’t work are as listed:
- There was no true democratic system of electing
- Opposition was not tolerated
- Leaders of the system in any country lived a healthy life, commoners were stuck living in such low terms and conditions, so much for equality!

Capitalism

The system of Capitalism is primarily about freedom and opportunity. Countries who worked with Capitalism, the USA in particular, made it successful, and the people generally supported that. The problems with capitalism are as listed:
- There is a sense of inequality
- Uncertainty is present, if you work hard you can live a wealthy life, or you might end up with a job less rewarding.
- Individuality, that itself may not be a bad thing, but what if you fail? The pnly person who can pick you up is
