As you requested, I am submitting recommendations for the company’s bereavement leave policy that provides the same benefits to all employees, regardless of their jurisdiction or their length of service.
The components of the policy include the following;
• A definition of immediate family including an employee's spouse, parent, children, siblings, grandparents, and grandchild. In deference to blended families employers increasingly add stepparent, step children, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, or domestic partners.
• The number of days that will be paid; three days is a standard minimum.
• Any documentation that must be submitted to obtain payment for the leave, such as an obituary,
