Throughout our classroom discussion, we discussed the results of Beowulf’s pride. Beowulf’s pride and confidence in the poem was the result of discussion in class. The main debate was if Beowulf’s actions were selfish or selfless. Another question raised was if Beowulf was more of a warrior or peacemaker. Along with this question, people began to wonder if Beowulf was a role model or a lesson learned. Also, the discussion shifted slightly to the topic of religion, mainly addressing the use of Christianity and Paganism in the poem. However, most of the class discussion was on the results Beowulf’s actions throughout the poem and if his pride helped or hurt him by the end.
