Beowulf’s most prominent character traits are psychological. Reason, strategy, or perseverance is not triggered by a physical response, however developed through mental ability. Therefore, it can be affirmed that the Anglo Saxon people admired the behavior of an intellectual such as Beowulf. As the epic hero approached the land of Herot, he had to introduce himself and gain the trust of the Danish guard in order to be admitted into the land. Beowulf skillfully does so, which leads the guard to exclaim, “A soldier should know the difference between words/ And deeds, and keep that knowledge clear/ In his brain.
