Beowulf: What Is My Hero

What is a hero? Everyone always talks about who there “hero” is, and usually it involves someone in a cape that fights evil. But really to me, thats not what a hero is; a hero is someone that will always be there whenever they are needed; someone who just does what he can; not for himself, but for the good of other people or his family; someone who is not afraid to take risks; and someone that will do whatever it takes to support his family/ friends and be successful. For these reasons, Shane is my hero. Shane was born into a poor family of seven, the youngest of all his siblings. He grew up in a house that his father had built with his own two hands, with a little help from a few other people. In a sense, he shared some of the same characteristics that Beowulf had. They were both proud of who they were and what they had come to accomplish in life, they were both determined to succeed, and they never gave up, even when the odds were stacked against them. But even with that being said, there are many things that they don’t have in common. Beowulf was very arrogant, really full of himself, and was quick to brag about himself whenever he was given the chance. Shane was not like that. In fact, he was the complete opposite. Ever since I have known him he has always been very humble, and quite honestly, he does not really like to talk about himself. If you were to ask him about his past, he is usually very vague when responding. You have to really know him to get to know his past. I’m not saying he is perfect, because nobody is. Everyone is flawed in some way or another, because we are people and that’s just human nature. But when I think of a hero, only one name comes to mind...and his name is
