throughout the poem, not only does beowulf show how he is selfless, but he does it in a heroic way. He continuously puts everyone else before himself to ensure their safety. He goes out of his way to provide protection and safety no matter what the dangers are. He traveled from far away to kill a beast he hasn’t seen, “Now Grendel and I are called together, and I have come. Grant me, then, lord and protector of this noble place, a single request!”(254-257). Also, after he had slain the evil creature Grendel, he traveled to the swamp where the Grendels mother lives and killed her.
