What values are necessary for a person to be considered an epic hero? Beowulf is an Old English poem written during the Anglo- Saxon period. It may have been composed more than twelve hundred years ago and it is possible that Beowulf may be the lone survivor or a genre of Old English long epics. The poem Beowulf, is about a mighty warrior that travels that travels to Danes to battle a demon named Grendel. King Hrothgar, ruler of the Danes, has been troubled for twelve years by Grendel, who attacks the mead- hall and brutally kills Danish warriors. Beowulf risks his life fighting to other battles after he kills Grendel. He battles Grendel's mother, who seeks to avenge her beloved son and a disturbed dragon which Beowulf battles at a heavy cost.
