Epic poems often consist of heroes. These heroes must follow the steps of the Hero’s Journey to fulfill the traits of a hero. Beowulf is a great example of a hero that contained all the traits of a hero in an epic poem. A hero is an individual that is full of courage and bravery. A good hero like Beowulf is often admired for traits related to their generosity and putting others first. Beowulf stood out as a hero mainly for his courage. It can be proven that Beowulf is courageous because he fought Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon. The majority of Beowulf’s men did not have the traits of a hero because of their lack of courage. When Beowulf battled the dragon and began dying the majority of his men did not have the courage to help
