The poem Beowulf is a poem of evil, hatred, strength courage, and faith. It is a poem of the great battles between the champions of the dark and of the light. Throughout the poem, one main theme, tone, and character stood out for me. The theme is an eye for an eye, the tone is impending doom, and the character was Grendel.
The main theme all throughout this poem is an eye for an eye. As the poem progresses someone is always getting even with someone else. Whether it's Beowulf killing Grendel because of his nightly slaughters. “Hanging high from the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was the monster’s arm, claw, and shoulder and all.”(lines 833-836).
