In the first battle, Beowulf's bravery was on full display within the battle with Grendel. No human-being would be brave enough to rid Grendel of his shoulder and arm with his own bare hands.According to the poem,”He twisted in pain, And the bleeding sinews deep in his shoulder Snapped, muscle and bone split And broke”(337-340). Beowulf battles Grendel to help the people of Heorot, but more importantly to display how much braver he was than any other being. While arriving to the battle scene, Beowulf's task aside from satisfying his own personal needs, was also to protect his people. Beowulf and his army enters the dragon's lair and left Beowulf alone. The army were to scared to battle the dragon since its was hug. Beowulf had to battle the dragon without his army, but one person wanted to fight the dragon beside his inspiration hero to him, Beowulf. Beowulf fight the dragon and uses his sword to stab the dragon but nothing worked. Beowulf thinks and stabs the dragon in the stomach but while stabbing the dragon the dragon was able to hit Beowulf. Beowulf sacrifice all his life for helping protect his people. The dragon had an entire burial mound of treasure filled with gold treasure and while Beowulf was slowly dieing his last words were to see the treasure. The person bring a pieces of the treasure and Beowulf according to the poem, ”Gone to a glorious death. .
