When he struggles and struggles finally Beowulf strength is too much and Grendel’s arm is ripped from its socket he knows his horrible fate which is to bleed to death in the horrid fen.Although soon after the She demon, Grendel's mother comes back for revenge Beowulf is prepared and more ready then he’ll ever be.He defeats the she demon triumphantly and come home strong with pride. Soon Beowulf becomes homesick and returns to his homeland of the Geats, he fights strongly with his uncle until he dies, Beowulf is asked to be the king of the Geats but kindly declines. It is only when Hardred, Beowulf cousin dies that he accepts the position of king and rules wisely. Beowulf is one of the few people in the story who admits to his weaknesses and proves that even though he is partially bad he uses that to become stronger and conquer his weaknesses. On the other hand Grendel is one who throws away his weaknesses and that leads to his downfall.”The brand missed Grendel but crashed to the floor beside the prostrate figure of Hrothgar.” Nye 16 In the start of the book it truly is the light that Grendel hates and it is that that he cannot stand he is the absolute meaning of darkness since Beowulf is full of light there is no way for Grendel to defeat him. Hrothgar is filled with goodness and light, he is someone who is humble and kind and it is the She Demon who shows the exact opposite trait of good. The She Demon only comes back for revenge seeking greed and creating ruin, therefore Hrothgar knows that they also cannot defeat this monster with swords but with something else that Beowulf has inside of him. Beowulf and Gilgamesh are great examples of two books with close similarities but also with great differences. In Beowulf, Beowulf is able to use his humility to gain others trust and keep it that way. Gilgamesh on the other hand is part god and part human.He uses his human side to help the people of his town, he uses his godlike side to accomplish his difficult tasks that he is faced with.
