Beowulf: Loyal, Kindness, And Bravery

The virtues in the prologue are Loyalty, Courage, Kindness and Bravery. Beowulf shows a great deal of loyalty to Hrothgar by taking on the fight with Grendel. Hrothgar helped Beowulf’s father in the past so Beowulf felt like the least he could do was to help Hrothgar. He shows Courage and bravery by defeating Grendel’s mother whom seeks revenge for her son’s death. Even though his reputation was on the line, he wanted to show everyone what he was capable of. He showed kindness by refusing to take the throne so that the queen’s son could become king.
The Danish nation is in desperation when Beowulf arrives. The Danes have not been able to defeat Grendel. When Beowulf arrived there was a sense of hope that he could be the one to finally defeat
