What does it take to get a break from and to ultimately overcome the evil that surrounds us every day? Ever since the fall of man back in the dawn of time, there has always been evil in the world, it has haunted man and followed closely behind him everywhere he goes. This is made visible in “Beowulf” by (insert author here) through multiple scenes when Beowulf builds the courage to take on evil head on. Beowulf affirms that evil can endanger peaceful civilizations, there can be small respites from evil in this world, and when evil seems overwhelming, it takes virtues such as humility, loyalty, and courage to defeat it. Society is an ever-changing being, it grows and modifies its ideals according to the what people want to see. In the age of the Anglo-Saxons, their people believed in the simple concept that people were either born good or evil and that evil people had no rationality for behaving evil. Modern society is the antithesis and demands reasoning behind a villain's evil doings. The idea of good and evil is much more complex in the current age and we believe that no one is born evil, that there are always circumstances that alter someone's personality. In the movie adaptation, Beowulf and Grendel (Gunnarsson, 2005), Grendel’s character is sympathized with to show how an audience expects complex backgrounds and developments for characters which contrast with simplistic duality that existed in 700 AD.…

“That doom abided, but in time it would come: the killer instinct unleashed among in-laws, the blood-lust rampant” (83-85). The foreshadowing in this line indicated the coming of a ferocious and malicious evil by the name of Grendel headed for Heorot. In the story of Beowulf, many evils made themselves present throughout the events that occurred. Behind all of that fighting is some interesting information about the fighting upon closer inspection. The theme of Beowulf is that good and evil are not always equally weighed out, as is evident by; the fighting itself, the description of the tribes and monsters, and the overall conflict of the poem.…
“I’ve learned a lot about good and evil and they are not always what they appear to be” (Doren 1).Often in life, the line between good and evil can be easily blurred and the difference between man and monster can be uncertain. Anonymously written, the epic poem of Beowulf expresses many examples of drawing parallels between man and beast, more specifically between heroes and villains. Although it is not unanimously agreed upon by scholars, Beowulf is believed to have been written in eighth century A.D in Britain (Acocella 1). Beowulf was thought to be read as a ballad or as entertainment for guests. Because it is an epic poem, Beowulf is full of heroes, villains, battles, and mystical beings.…
