Beowulf is a narrative poem that it introduces an epic hero who has fought with mysterious creature. The poem was written in England but it describes event that take place in Scandinavia around the 500 among two groups; the Danes of Denmark and the Geets of Sweden. The story was believed that it was written by a monk because has some Christian references. In the 2007 film it shows different perspective of Beowulf than in the story. In the book he was describe more in a way of an animal demand. In the film he is shown to be more of an old, tall, skinny character.
Some unexpected things that happened in the film that wasn’t describe in the book was for example the way Beowulf lies about killing the mermaid sea that had attack him in the water, but in the film she was Beowulf’s mother. I honestly wasn’t expecting that to be in the film.

Grendel really attacks everyone on the hall. Another difference was Beowulf never kills Grendel mother like he said he did, instead he made a deal with her to have a normal king life without any fights or problems while his a king in the reign, but in order to have that he was going to give her a son and leave the gold horn with her. He did agree to follow her rules and for many years everything was fine.
The version that I like the most was the film. In the film it’s more intense than in the book. I like the fact that I read the book before watching the film, but I honestly like the way the film adds more to it to makes the film more interesting. My favorite part of this film was how at the end we find out that the dragon was Beowulf real son that was really unexpected and crazy to see how he actually had the idea on agree with her and have a baby together. I don’t understand how he did that to the queen. At the end of the story he dies and he will forever been

Beowulf was a great warrior that faced many physical monsters in his life, but that doesn’t compare with the inner demons that people face in their everyday life, such as depression, anxiety, and stress. This story was composed when England was transitioning from a pagan to a Christian culture. Reading through this heroic poem it is evident where the monks imbedded their ideals into this pagan story. Being passed down verbally through generations there were slight changes along the way, but still kept its heroic impact on the audience. In “The Battle with Grendel”, the film insinuates that the men were awake when Grendel attacked and he also attacked numerous men. In the text on the hand, the men were asleep when he attacked and he only attacked Wiglaf. In “The Battle with The Dragon” viewers learned that he was actually Beowulf’s son. The first example of the similarities and differences in the epic poem and the movie is the portrayal of Beowulf. For example he still seeking for fame and glory, he also boasts about himself, and is immensely strong. In the Beowulf passage and movie they throw a party in Herot, where he tells the tales of the victories that he won against monsters and demons. Although, there are some differences between them, an example of this is, in the poem Beowulf was seen as a perfect being but in the movie he is flawed.…

The saying “there are two sides to every story” rings especially true when comparing the various personas of Grendel throughout the poem, Beowulf, the story, Grendel, and the YouTube clip shown in class. Grendel’s characterization varies greatly in the movie, book and poem equally. The contrasting viewpoints play off of the theme “Morality vs. Instinct”. Also, Grendel’s character differs based upon the perspective of the writer and his prior experiences with Grendel. However, Grendel’s action remain constant throughout each outlet.…

In the movie and the poem Beowulf there were many differences and similarities that stood out. I was interesting to be able to visually see the poem come to life. As it is always easier for me to be interested while I am watching something instead of reading it. In the book Beowulf goes back to Geatland, which is the land of the Geat's. He goes back to become a king of his uncles kingdom.…

In the epic poem and movie Beowulf there are a lot of differences and similarities between the two. Can you spot some of the differences that happened in the movie and the book? Well here is some of the things that I spotted out during the movie that didn’t happened in the book. First, the battle between Beowulf and Grendel in the movie they were awake and partying during his attack; however, in the book they were sleep. Second, the battle against Grendel’s mother didn’t happened in the movie, but in the book they actually fought, and he killed her.…

Furthermore, the second example of similarities and differences in the Beowulf poem and movie is Grendel’s mom role. In the Beowulf movie and poem, Grendel’s mother was a seduced; she used her body to get Beowulf’s attention. Regardless of how Grendel’s mother is described as a seduced, however, in the poem, she was a monster but in the movie, she was a human form. In the poem, “Beowulf”, Grendel’s mother is described as a female monster and sea hog. In the movie, she was an actual human form when she came out of the water and met Beowulf; this is when she asked Beowulf for a…

The poem, for example, referred to Christianity as well as some pagan beliefs. The movie mostly only refers to pagan gods that weren’t even mentioned in the original story. Another theme that was changed in the movie is Beowulf’s constant heroism. Beowulf is seen as a hero throughout the poem, and when he is told not to let pride get in his way of being a great man he listens. The Beowulf from the film does not do the same.…

The use of new technology, making the characters seem animated, yet still realistic, was a reason to go see the film in and of itself. Action was already the main focus point of the tale Beowulf to begin with, so the producers decided to include sexual innuendos/nudity, as well as crude humor and romance. The plot was changed almost as much as Grendel, even though that was not the intended idea, and many parts of the movie were completely made up. Yet all of this catered towards a younger, more modern audience of today’s world. The film manages to morph an old tale into a clever 21st century movie, while still keeping some main ideas.…
