The short story “Beowulf” comes from the Anglo-Saxon literary and historical period. “Even though the story is told to be a pagan story, it actually comes from a Christian poet” (“Analysis of Major Character”). Beowulf is now taught all around the world as the first important work of English or literature. Although the short story was not really read until the 1900’s so the short story doesn't have an impact on today's modern language. Anglo-Saxon is referred to as someone who inhabited and ruled territories, which is what Beowulf was doing in the short story to help his people survive and this being his background explains as to why people look to him as a hero in the story.
An epic hero is a brave and noble character, someone admired by great achievements. Beowulf did many things in the short story to become a hero.
