Every culture has different views on what a heroic person is described as. Today a hero would be known as someone who steps up against what is wrong. In the poem Beowulf Translated by Seamus Heaney, heroes are portrayed a differently, the main character, Beowulf, is known as a hero. Beowulf is presented as a hero because, he defends and protects his people, he was loyal to the people he served, and he was victorious in important battles. A sign of a heroic leader is someone who defends and protects people in need of help. Beowulf decides to sail across seas to The Danes, people who he previously had little to no connection with.
