There are several occasions throughout Beowulf that you see the mutual relationship a lord and his warriors share. One of my favorites is at the end of Beowulf when Beowulf fights the dragon. Only one of Beowulf’s soldiers come to his aid during this battle. That person was Wiglaf. I think this examples shows the true relationship between a king and a warrior. A warrior was supposed to give his life for his king, and Wiglaf was the only one to do that. In line 2605, he saw that his lord was being tormented by the heat of his hot helmet, and he remember all the gifts he had received from the king. He was the only one to remember that mutual relationship they had. Even though Wiglaf did not die, he put his life on the line for his king. Beowulf
