Both the physical strength and moral strength of Beowulf and Captain America are equal. An example of Beowulf’s strength comes after defeating Grendel, “The victory, for the proof, hanging high from the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was the monster’s arm, claw and shoulder and all” (Beowulf 37). Beowulf’s physical strength is only matched by that of the monsters he encounters in the story. Having the superhuman ability to rip of a monster’s arm off from its socket shows the impressive strength of Beowulf. Like Beowulf, Captain America who has the strength of a small truck helps to bring the vehicle to a halt (Kirby and Simon 9). Beowulf and Captain America share the trait of super strength which allows Captain America to pick up heavy objects, throw his shield great lengths, and even stop moving vehicles. Moving on to moral strength, Beowulf possesses a high degree of this virtue; his morality is righteous and unwavering. Beowulf takes his stance against evil when he says, “That I, alone and with the help of my men, may purge all evil from this hall” (Beowulf 21). Beowulf has a strong desire to fight evil wherever, whenever, and in all forms. To him, it is his obligation to God and society. Similarly, Captain America also has a strong will to fight evil. “Once gay Paris is not a pretty sight under the heel of the Nazi conqueror” (Kirby and Simon 6).
