Baggins is quite different from the hero of the epic poem,“Beowulf”. Although both are heroes their journeys of self-discovery are very different.To fully compare and contrast these heroes we must know who each of them are. The similarities are that they are both fantasy characters with human like qualities. Bilbo and Beowulf both work for a greater reputation among the people they know. They both have enemies that they try to conquer. Beowulf’s enemy would be Grendel, while Bilbos enemy would be Smaug. In both of their journeys they go on a quest for self-discovery and they are both admired in their societies. The differences are that Beowulf is a soldier who is scared of nothing, and Bilbo is just a small hobbit with hairy feet, who at first was scared to leave his hobbit hole and terrified of anything that my harm him.
