Both Beowulf and Achilles are very cocky about themselves. They think high of themselves as Beowulf only helps people for the fame. The king of Hothgar realizes his town is in deep trouble when Grendel comes and eats his people. The king reaches out to Beowulf to come and get rid of Grendel for them. Beowulf then boasts to the king about how great of a fighter he is and how he can kill any monster that gets in his way. Achilles only helps people for vengeance. When the war started; Achilles decides to sit out until people start begging for him to step in and help. Achilles does this so that people realize that he was the best warrior. …show more content…
Beowulf exhibits bravery many times. He shows this by fighting monsters to help people of the town from being killed by Grendel. When Beowulf first meets Grendel he doesn’t back down. His bravery is so clear cut that Grendel ends up running away from Beowulf. This clearly demonstrates bravery quite clearly. Beowulf fought mythical creatures and Achilles was fighting real soldiers. Beowulf was saving people’s lives from attacks of other monsters. Achilles poses a trait of being a coward. He shows this by asking Zeus to have his team loose the war. Also he refuses to fight for the Greeks temporarily, since king Agamemnon was bitter about one of his own Greek woman being stolen from Hector. His cowardness is so clear that he’d rather sit out of the war and wait for king Agamemnon to beg him to help fight in the war. This demonstrates being a coward pretty
