The history
The poem tells the struggle of Beowulf, a hero of the people of the Geats (southern Sweden), against three great enemies. The first is Grendel, a sinister being who takes time to attack the palace Heorot and killing the warriors of King Hroðgar, a historical Danish monarch of the sixth century. The king will end up asking for help as it is impossible to kill the monster, and Beowulf and his men travel to Denmark to his rescue. The monster, badly wounded, flee screaming in pain. After Beowulf must fight with Grendel's mother, who find the trail of her battered son, who takes refuge in a grotto with inland lake that serves as home to both. Beowulf killed Grendel available, and will be attacked by his mother, a kind of sorceress who also put to death after an exhausting struggle, this time thanks to a magic
