Beowulf: A True Hero

Decent Essays
A hero is defined as a person who is admired for great or brave acts of courage. The definition matches the characteristics of Beowulf because he was never afraid of the outcome of his endeavors. Beowulf was not born to a higher status and like most heroes he felt undervalued by his community. Nevertheless, he fought and defeat any demon or enemy that threatened the people. His heart and determination led him to many victories, and to be later anointed as king. Beowulf, like all superhero, falls short in some areas. He was not driven by kindness or generosity like some defined him, but by the praise he would receive for being victorious. When Beowulf was lying helpless, during his final battle, his inspiration to continue wasn’t for safety

In Beowulf, I found myself idolizing over the strong and fearless hero. He was what I would call “the perfect hero”, because not only did he get the job done, but he did it so with honor and modesty. In some cases it reminded me of the movie Hercules, where Hercules tried to show off as much as possible and show that he was better than everyone else to gain fame. While Beowulf used his famous strength to help those in need not to just gain fame, but because he knew he was undoubtedly the only one who could help.…
