Benvolio Punished Quotes

Decent Essays
Finally, the character I believe should be punished after all of this is Benvolio. Lord Montague thinks of him as perfect in the story, whereas if he wouldn’t have pushed Romeo to get over Rosaline and find a new love, this might of never happened. When Benvolio poked and pried Romeo to get over Rosaline, he pushed him to go look and see if he could find a different love. In the text it read, “ Go thither; and, with an untainted eye, Compare her face with some that I shall show, And I will make thee think thy swan a crow.” When Benvolio said this, he told Romeo to go and look at other women to see if they’re more beautiful, and this is when Romeo first saw Juliet. Benvolio is at fault because he pushed Romeo to go to the Capulet’s home.

Particularly, Romeo is at fault because, as a character, he makes rash decisions that result in inferior consequences in the future. Notably, he neglects to tell his parents that he plans to marry Juliet; therefore, he creates a situation in which no one is aware that Romeo and Juliet are wedded. Another key point is that Romeo kills Tybalt for revenge when Tybalt slays Mercutio in the streets of Verona. Earlier in the first act the Prince of Verona notifies the Capulets and Montagues that if they were to ever fight in the streets again than the families would have to pay with their lives. Consequently, Romeo did not assess the seriousness of the situation, and he fought Tybalt in the streets.…

The hatred runs so deep that if caught, those who break the expectations may face death. Regardless of these consequences, Romeo and Juliet decide to be defiant and continue their relationship. When some of Romeo’s other irrational decisions catch up to him, he becomes banned from Verona. He sees no way to avoid this punishment that prevents him from being with Juliet, and becomes sullen and morose. When he meets with Friar Laurence, begging for advice, Friar suggests, “Ascend her chamber, hence and comfort her: / But look thou stay not till the watch be set” (3.3.193-194).…

Friar Laurence attempts to save Juliet from an unwelcome marriage, yet, this effort to aid Juliet ultimately results in her death. Juliet is a child who has not yet met the disappointments of growing up, and the continuation of her naivety results in her untimely death. Furthermore, Juliet stabs herself as a way of getting what she wants: to be with Romeo. Once more, Friar Laurence proves his incompetence when he tells Romeo to go to Juliet after the news of his banishment. This action is important because during Romeo and Juliet’s short time together, they share their doubts of encountering each other once more, resulting in their impulsive decisions and actions to be together.…

I don’t think they realised exactly what they were doing, or what it could result in, but I still can’t help but think how childish it was of them to restrict anyone to associate with the Montagues. Forcing Juliet to marry, when she clearly was repulsed by the thought was absolutely foolish. They should have realised that hate would only lead to harm however it wasn’t until one of their own, the young Juliet, was driven to a painful death did they realise what they were doing was wrong. Even then. After everything, they couldn’t even bare to look at the Montagues, to try and fix everything, was losing their own daughter not enough to open their eyes to the hideous truth?…

“For doting, not for loving, pupil mine.” (Shakespeare, 2.3. 87). In the play Romeo and Juliet Romeo, a Montague, falls in love with Juliet, a Capulet. This play is about a pair of star-crossed lovers and their rival families living together in Verona, and how the burning love that Romeo had for Juliet turned into blood and tears. I believe that Romeo was the character that was truly at fault for the entire tragedy.…

Imagine being a man who was seen as someone as holy and influential as the church, and then turning your back on your beliefs to help two young lovers betray their families. This is the trial and tribulation that Friar Laurence went through after realizing his plan of getting the young Montague and Capulet together resulted in their deaths. Although Friar thought he was being helpful and caring, he was ultimately the man responsible for the deaths of Sir Romeo Montague and Lady Juliet Capulet. My first piece of evidence to prove Friar Laurence guilty is a diary entry he wrote a couple days after the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.…

When a situation does not go according to plan, someone is always to be blamed. In William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, Lord Capulet is partially to blame for the tragedy due to his inconsideration of his daughter’s opinions and feelings, however Friar Laurence takes most of the blame because of his failed plan to reunite the couple and his well-intentioned, but disastrous decision to marry them in the first place. Lord Capulet, although formally wanting Juliet’s consent to marry Paris, now threatens to disown her if she refuses. He expresses his disappointment and rage towards Juliet by furiously stating, “I tell thee what-get thee to church a’ Thursday Or never after look me in the face. Speak not, reply not, do not answer me” (III.v.162-164).…
