Romeo’s discussion with Benvolio reveals his stubborn attitude. After Rosaline took her vow of celibacy, Romeo explains to Benvolio, “Well, in that hit you miss: she’ll not he hit” (I.i. 62-63). Romeo is being obstinate because he believes that Rosaline will never change her decision to become a nun; and therefore his heart will never heal. Romeo is also acting childish because he refuses to take advice from an older adult and instead tries to prove that he is right. When Romeo gives up hope of ever loving another woman, he tells his cousin, “Farewell, thou canst not teach me to forget” (I.i. 97).
