Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin was an inventor from the 1700’s. He was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts. As a child, Benjamin wanted to be a sailor, but because his brother became a sailor and was lost at sea, his dad would not allow him to sail. Franklin went to grammar school at the age of eight, but at the age of ten he left school and went to work with his father in his candle shop because he loved to read and was bad at math. After he was taken out of school, the education he received was just reading books. His father decided to send him to work with his older brother at the age of twelve.
