Because fall and and shortly after, winter is among us, we often find ourselves drinking hot coffee and bundling up tightly together by the fireplace in our homes. One may ask themselves, who was the genius to think of such thing as? While many know Benjamin Franklin as being one of America’s founding fathers, many might be surprised to know that he has made many inventions in his life time, including the fireplace that is known as the Franklin Stove. In 1741 Franklin began his design that allowed for a safer and more effective way to warm homes. In previous years, colonial homes were heated by using heaps of wood and placed in the fireplace. This was very unsafe and illogical because sparks could fly and the homes could burn down instantaneously.
