Franklin wanted things to be as simple as possible, and as he grew older he began to struggle with his vision. This led to the idea of having two pairs of glasses in one, also known as, the bifocals. The bottom lense allowed the user to see close up, perfect for reading. The top lense was ideal for distance (“Benjamin Franklin Biography”). Franklin also took the idea of a stove that was very inefficient, and realized he could make it better. He named his version after himself, calling it the “Franklin Stove”. It used the same amount of wood fuel, but it burned much longer (“Benjamin Franklin”). With New England having harsh winters, it was easy to see why something of this sort was in need of improvement. Another problem the people of New England had, only now it was in the summers, was that there were buildings constantly being struck by lightning, resulting in a fire that could cause widespread damage. Ben Franklin, knowing that metal was a conductor of electricity, made lightning rods, (“It’s The Little Things”). Yes, their homes and buildings were now more likely to be victims of a lighting strike, but the copper wire coming off it led the current to the ground, resulting in less fires. Ben was the creator of the Albany plan, (“Benjamin Franklin”). Franklin, like the rest of the citizens in the colonies, wanted more of their own freedoms, with this came the Albany plan. It was later rejected by the British because they felt it gave the colonies too much power. This did not stop Franklin from pushing for the rights of the people. Ben was the only founding father that signed all four major U.S documents including The Declaration of Independence, Treaty of Paris, The Constitution, and The Treaty of Alliance with France, (“Benjamin Franklin”). The Treaty of Alliance with France proved to be pivotal for the U.S in the Revolutionary war. The French sent supplies and soldiers to help fight the British and the United States may not have won without their help. Benjamin also helped draft the Declaration of Independence, (“Benjamin Franklin Biography”). With this document, there were no more colonies, it was now the United States. No longer were they under British rule the people needed rules. After his success for so long in politics he was selected to be the representative for Pennsylvania at the Constitutional Convention, (“Benjamin Franklin Biography”). Obviously the Constitution is the most impactful document in United States history and is still used for the base of the U.S
