Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17,1706, in Boston in what used to be known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. His father Josiah Franklin was a soap and candle maker, he was the father of 17 children. He had 7 children with his first wife Anne Child, and 10 with his second wife Abiah Folger.

Benjamin went to the Boston Latin School for roughly 2 years (1714-1716). Although he was doing well he was pulled out at age 10 to work with his father in candle making, but candle making didn't interest Benjamin. So at the age of 12 he became a apprentice for his brother, James. When James didn't allow Benjamin to print his writings, he did it anyways secretly. James was angry when he found out and Benjamin left shortly

He became a great inventor, inventing many thing, his most important inventions are bifocal eyeglasses, the lighting rod, etc..

He made the lighting rod because in Benjamin's lifetime lots of people died and many buildings were destroyed, besides praying no one knew how to protect buildings from lightning. After countless hours of experimenting with static electricity, he figured that if a metal rod could be placed on top of a building and wired to the ground with a cable, it could extract the Lightning before it had a chance to do any damage. That was the beginning of electricity!

He made bifocal glasses because as Benjamin got older he became both near and far sighted, he had to switch his glasses all the time. So annoyed with the constant switching he combined the lens together, putting the lens for far sighting on the bottom while the near sight lens on top.

Benjamin was also one of the 5 men to draft the Declaration Of Independence and one of the 13 men to draft the Articles of Confederation. So Mr. Franklin was key in the rights of our country we enjoy to this day.

Benjamin was an important figure and helped shaped our country to the land of freedom and opportunity it is
