As a young boy, Franklin receives a few copper coins from friends and family as a holiday gift. Ecstatically, he goes to the store and buys a whistle. When he arrives back at home, he decides to melodically play and play to boast in front of his family about his new toy. Annoyed by his playing, his brother, sister and cousin inquire about the price of the whistle. When he responds, they mention that he paid much more than the whistle is worth. Wallowing, he dreams about all of the other things he could have bought with the extra coinage. In the parable, like many seven year olds, Benjamin Franklin didn’t stop to think about the consequences of his actions. He saw the whistle and knew he had to have it. Before thinking twice, he offered all

Guided by Voices The wealthy and well-to-do taking up 83 percent of Congress in H.H., NY, NJ, and taking up 88 percent of congress in MD, VA, and S.C, shows a lack of voice through political representation of only the wealthy. Lack of voice can create a world where no one's problems are heard and not a single person knows what's happening around them. Voice is being able to speak one’s opinion without fear of persecution, having the ability to participate in government, and to inform others of news concerning oneself, the country and society. Having the ability to speak one's opinion is necessary in society so that those in charge can take into consideration their position of issues and make the issues more well known.…

Benjamin Franklin would not approve entirely of the Purkapile's marriage but would agree that some parts are good. The reason he would not approve is that it seems the husband loves the wife way more than the wife loves him and by Franklin's views it should be more equal. On the other hand he would approve that Mrs. Purkapile does not question nor argue about the fact that Mr. Purkapile ran away for a year as according to Mr. Franklin "Dispute not with him" which is exactly what Mrs. Purkapile is doing. I believe at first when Mrs. Mallard first hears of her husbands death "She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister's arms" showing that she cared very deeply about her husband.…

Ayn Rand and George Orwell are the authors of the two novels, Anthem and Animal Farm. George Orwell based his novel, Animal Farm, on the Russian Revolution. He used allegory to make the characters come to life. Ayn Rand, the author of Anthem, wrote her novel purely of her own imagination and thoughts of what will become of the future. In the novels Anthem and Animal Farm, the plot takes place around an abusive leadership where they rebel for the freedom of the differences and from the strict government; however, they have different points of views and different resolution.…

Morality has often been thought of as limited due to the fundamental rights and wrongs everyone has known since kindergarten, however there is an overabundance of approaches to elucidate this skill. For instance, in the autobiography A Most Awkward, Ridiculous Appearance by Benjamin Franklin, he provides a brief story on his arrival to Philadelphia and then explains how he conducts his thirteen moral virtues that he plans to accomplish. Franklin’s approach with this piece can be related to a prescription, such as applying one moral a day until the recipient can successfully add on another. This process would continue on until all thirteen morals have been mastered. To me this method seems arduous and extremely extensive because there is no clear way to justify if the virtue has been completed successfully.…

Utilizing virtually every character in a satirical sense throughout his 1759 novel Candide, Enlightenment author Voltaire squandered no time with his chance to convey any perspective he held when concerned with idle philosophers of his time and their theories of theodicy. Particularly, G.W. von Leibniz. Through the character Pangloss - a passionate philosopher, stubborn scholar, and faithful friend to the novel's protagonist - Voltaire makes sure to often allude towards the impracticality of said theories and concepts, fabricating a character who, in spite of how ridiculous he comes across to the reader, plays a crucial role as the naive allegory in the overall theme of Candide. It is more or less inarguable that Pangloss and the unrealistic beliefs he possesses are the prime focus of satirical elements used in Candide. Introduced as the mentor and tutor to the novel's appropriately named hero, Candide, the entire character…
