Benjamin Franklin was born in 1706; a time where those who were not born into an affluent family were still able to cultivate an affluent future for themselves. As history proves, Franklin definitely paved a prosperous future for himself, and the futures of others. Benjamin Franklin was raised by a working class family. It was not his business connections nor his family name that catapulted him to success, but rather his hard work and talent that allowed him to rise in the social system. Although this is true, this unfortunately was not the case for African slaves. During Franklin's time, slavery was alive and relatively new. It was custom for people to own slaves who tended to crops, worked in kitchens and executed numerous other hard labors.
