Benjamin Banneker was born in 1731 and raised in Maryland on a tobacco farm. Later when Banneker was walking he spotted a salesman holding his pocket watch. So Benjamin asked him if he could borrow it for a while. The salesman agreed and gave him the watch. Banneker took it home and carefully took the watch apart and examined and drew each of the parts the watch contained. Then Benjamin placed all the pieces together again and gave it back to the salesman. Ever since Banneker was little boy, farm tools and machines always fascinated him. Banneker also enjoyed watching machines and learning how they work. In 1753 Banneker invented his first wooden clock which kept its time for the rest of his life. The building of the clock
