njamin Banneker who was known as the first african american man of science was born november 9 1731 in ellicotts mills Maryland. He grew up with his three sisters growing tobacco on his parents farm. His maternal grandmother taught him how to read and about religion. He attended an integrated school and loved mathematics and astounding mechanical ability. Whenever he could he would borrow books from people and read as much as he could. He was forced to leave school at age 15 to work the family farm but he continued to be an avid reader. Much of benjamin's learnings came from himself since he was a self taught child. In the early 1750’s benjamin borrowed a pocket watch from a wealthy person and took …show more content…
Thomas Jefferson responded saying how much he does not like slavery and How he wants more than anybody to end the whole thing. Jefferson was so impressed with banneker that he sent a copy out to the marquis de condorcet which was a Secretary of the French academy of sciences in Paris. During the following years the two letters one o from Benjamin and the statesman reply were published in the United States in a largely distributed pamphlet. Benjamin banneker also made an almanac. It was very popular and widely known. He got acknowledged by many people around him and those visiting his region. Benjamin had 28 different versions of the almanac. Inside the almanac were things like measures,collages,interest rates,road measurement,and the scale of depreciation. His almanac benefited Fishermen in many ways. He helped them to know when there was high tides. Benjamin's life was of constant worship in the great temples of nature and science and as places grew in number Benjamin visited them.
