Fascism was founded in Italy by the famous dictator Benito Mussolini. After World War I Italy was angry because despite being on the victorious side they did not benefit from the Treaty of Versailles. Mussolini promised that he would bring Italy glory in the form of a strong government. Instead of bringing a strong government he promised, Mussolini brought a totalitarian form of government. A totalitarian form of government is a government that aims to control the political, economic, social, intellectual, and cultural lives of its citizens. Benito Mussolini was the prime minister and dictator of Italy from 1922 through 1943 when he was overthrown. He fought as a soldier in World War I.
