Elie underwent so many hardships during this time frame, he had witnessed hundreds of people dying every day, he eventually became extremely familiar with death. The only thing that mattered to him was his father, he lived solely for him. During the Holocaust Elie stayed with his father almost the entirety of it, Elie would have done anything for him. No one else was the for Elie during his stay, and as a result, he clung to his father, ignoring everything around him, all his, as said in Night, ‘natural needs’.When Elie’s father was nearing death due to the extreme cold weather, starvation, and exhaustion, Elie could barely move, but still, he protected his father. They had been throwing dead bodies out to make room for living, and when they tried to grab his father, Elie could not stand for it (metaphorically of course). He pried everyone off him and did his best to wake his father up to save him, and father did wake up everything was far from over. After they reached Buchenwald his father contracted dysentery, and even though it was hopeless for him, Elie still continued to save his father on multiple accounts. He could have ditched his deadweight father a long time ago, but yet he continued to save him over and over. When Elie’s father finally dies, Elie is torn up apart, his father meant everything to him. I believe Elie
