Should school be year around?

I do not support the idea of schools being year round. Yes, in other countries, there are year round schools. Here’s the kicker, they give you a test to see if you can continue your education or not. In the United States, however, you go to school from maybe pre-K to kindergarten to 12th and maybe on to college. If I went around to everyone at my school and asked them if there should be year round schools. The answer would be extremely obvious. Everyone would say NO! I can see why boards are considering this. Higher standardized test scores means that the school is held up with respect. They don’t consider the amount of resistance they’ll face. Children love summer and teachers love summer because they can

One reason that I am against year round schools is it would cost a lot more money than a traditional school. One example of this is in the summer months of school, the school would have to pay for the AC unit to run. If the school didn't have an AC, then they would have to pay for the unit to be put in which can cost up to 25 million dollars in an average school. Another money problem that the school can face is repairs to the building. In a traditional school, they have three months to make repairs to the building, but in a year round school, they have to pay for more workers to finish what they need them to do in one month.…

The group presentation about Year-Round Schooling had no effect to change my views, but after reading Huebner article my mind had shifted more to a neutral view. I would even considering working at a year-round school, which is surprising for me because I love my summer breaks. I feel that elementary students would adapt easier to year-round school because they love learning. For high school, it would be hard to convince them because they need that summer break to make money and become an adult. So, I was wondering if any districts had elementary students year-round and had high school students the traditional way?…

It has been proved time and time again, that students are happier when they get the opportunity of having a summer break. Without a summer break students don't perform the best of their ability. The school calendar should not run year-round because students perform better, and extra costs are avoided, however students would have more learning opportunities. All year long I look forward to summer. It's a time to be with friends, have no homework, and be carefree.…

The Benefits Year-Round Schooling Since the beginning of time, teaching and learning has been a detrimental part of what makes us able to innovate and experience the world around us. A form of schooling introduced in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s was a year round school system (Pedersen, "The History of School and Summer Vacation"). This system allowed for more days within the learning period and allotted for students to get more out of their education. Research from all the way back to a hundred years ago has shown that students tend to lose information and their footing during a traditional summer vacation (Fairchild, "Why and how communities should focus on summer learning."). The current system most public schools within the…

Lots of schools have year round school. All of them have proved to be successful. Having year-round school would be beneficiary for two main reasons, better time allotments for family vacations so less kids would miss, and people in low-income homes would benefit with year long food service and assistance from staff. According to the Encyclopedia of Education, all schools that implemented year round school, have determined it successful and decided to keep it in their school. “Many people believe that summers are valuable times for students to grow and learn outside of the classroom environment,” (O’Sullivan 410). However, a way to fix this would be to have the schools include these in their program. Offer the parents a type of summer camp run by year-round schools that runs during the months that your student is out of school in the summer, that way they can still be involved in the summer camps and also get to meet some new people.…

Year Round School is causing many problems all over the U.S. For example coming from Glori Chaika, some schools even have to start earlier because of the effects of year round school. During the summer schools starts at 6:50 A.M and ends at 1:10, this is because the school wants kids to be able to participate in P.E, but they can not if it is 110 degrees out. This shows that the schools are in a big loss of not only education but costs too. If the school can not even pay for air conditioning anymore then we should not have Year Round School; it will negatively affect families and students.…

Most students and parents disagree with this idea, and it comes off as a negative idea. In reality, this is not the case students who attend year round schooling actually have more time for this. Little do we know year-round schooling has many more advantages than disadvantages, actually a lot of good things can come out of this.
