Most agree that weight training is beneficial and has many positive outcomes for those who do it, however, done wrong, it can be more detrimental to one’s health than no exercise at all. Working out can be a very complex activity and will injure inexperienced participants that exercise without knowing what they are doing. Often, it’s the young men that try to impress someone by lifting more than they can handle and end up pulling a muscle or throwing their back out. Back in the day, exercise was hardly given any attention until studies revealed how healthy it is for one’s body. “It lowers the risk of heart attack, cancer, and depression, boosts energy levels, helps you think clearer, and may even slow down the aging process” (2). Exercise helps you be in control of your weight and has been proven to improve sleep (3). Everyone wants to be healthy because it makes you happy. Being healthy is also a feeling that improves your mood and boosts moral. Personally, I train to be healthy, so I can be comfortable with my body and to be a warrior for God. I believe God made me for a purpose and I need to stay healthy and strong, so I can fulfill that purpose. The verse from the book of Romans says, “I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship” (4). Minor mistakes may not cause long term damage, but they limit the effectiveness of the lift itself and won’t do anything for you. Harsh mistakes however, will cause damage and can constrict you from normal tasks later in life. “The severe incorrect practices will lead to over strains, which will bring out many physiological, psychological and biochemical changes” (1). Major faults may include: not staying hydrated, lifting more than you can handle or not having the correct posture while doing the exercise (2). Experts say it is better to avoid exercise completely, instead of making a mistake and possibly ruining your life. “Exercises are always beneficial, but incorrect exercises are the culprits for ill effects” (1). The best way to stay safe when inexperienced is to hire a personal trainer. Their job is to find out the best exercises for you personally and find the perfect way to live
